🤍 Early Pregnancy Care with an Endorsed Midwife 🤍

Did you know that seeing a GP isn't your only option when you find out you're pregnant?

An Endorsed Midwife can provide early pregnancy care, including education, screening, referrals and ongoing support.

Those first few weeks of pregnancy can bring so many questions, emotions and decisions. Having the time to talk things through and understand what comes next can make all the difference.

At For Her., early pregnancy appointments are designed to give you the time, information and support you deserve.

With longer appointment times, we can focus on what matters to you, including:

-Pregnancy options – a safe, supportive space to discuss your options and make informed decisions.

-Early pregnancy education – understanding the changes happening in your body, what to expect and when to seek advice.

-Antenatal screening – discussing and arranging recommended blood tests, genetic screening options and ultrasounds, with informed consent.

-Referrals – supporting timely referrals to maternity hospitals, specialists and other healthcare providers when needed.

Ongoing support – timely follow-up of results and helping you navigate the next steps in your pregnancy while keeping you informed in your decisions.

Pregnancy care shouldn't feel rushed. You deserve time to ask questions, explore your options and feel informed and supported from the very beginning.

FOREMILK vs HINDMILK... let's talk about it!

Have you ever been told that your baby needs to feed for a certain amount of time to reach the "fatty hindmilk"?

Well, here's what the evidence tells us! 👇

Breastmilk isn't divided into two distinct types. The terms foremilk and hindmilk simply describe milk at different stages of a feed.

Research shows that:

đź’§ Breastmilk fat concentration generally increases as milk is removed from the breast.

đź’§ Breast fullness plays an important role in milk fat concentration.

đź’§ There is no magical point in a feed when foremilk suddenly becomes hindmilk.

So, what does this mean for you and your baby?

đź’• You don't need to time feeds to make sure your baby receives hindmilk.

đź’• Focus on effective milk transfer, your baby's feeding cues, wet nappies and appropriate weight gain.

đź’• Both early and later milk provide valuable nutrition for your baby.

The takeaway? There is no need to chase the hindmilk! Every feed is different, and breastfeeding is about so much more than watching the clock.

If you're concerned about your baby's milk intake, feeding or weight gain, individualised support from an IBCLC can help.

✨ Can I overfeed my breastfed baby?

It's one of the questions I hear most often—and the short answer is.... it's very unlikely!

Breastfed babies are remarkably good at regulating their own intake. They feed when they're hungry, slow down when they're full, and stop when they've had enough.

It's also important to remember that **not all time at the breast is about milk.**

🤱 Nutritive sucking is when your baby is actively drinking milk with slow, rhythmic sucks and regular swallows.

🤱 Non-nutritive sucking is a lighter, quicker sucking pattern with little or no swallowing. This helps babies soothe themselves, regulate their emotions, and satisfy their natural need to suck. Comfort feeding is a normal and healthy part of breastfeeding.

This is why babies may want to stay at the breast even after they've finished actively feeding. They're not necessarily taking in more milk, they may simply be seeking comfort, connection, and regulation.

Frequent feeding, cluster feeding, and comfort feeding are all normal parts of infant development and don't usually mean your baby is being overfed.

đź’› If you're unsure whether your baby is feeding effectively or you'd like support to better understand their feeding cues, I'd love to help.

Did you know breastfeeding benefits both you and your baby? 🤍

Most people know breast milk is nutritious—but it's also a remarkable, living substance that adapts to your baby's changing needs while supporting your own long-term health.

🤍 Benefits for baby:
• Supports healthy brain development
• Provides antibodies that help protect against infections
• Supports a healthy gut microbiome
• Reduces the risk of respiratory and gastrointestinal illnesses
• May lower the risk of SIDS and some chronic diseases later in life

🌸 Benefits for mum:
• Supports recovery after birth
• Helps reduce postpartum blood loss
• Lowers the lifetime risk of breast and ovarian cancer
• May reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease
• Encourages bonding through close, responsive feeding

Breastfeeding doesn't have to be all or nothing. Every feed, every day, and every drop of breast milk offers benefits.

If breastfeeding is going well—amazing. If it's feeling harder than you expected, you're not alone. Support can make a real difference, and you don't have to navigate it by yourself.
