- The History of NDIS
Did you know the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) began on 1 July 2013, with trial sites introduced across Australia? The national rollout began in 2016, and the scheme gradually expanded to support eligible Australians with permanent and significant disability.
Before the NDIS, disability support funding often worked differently, depending on where a person lived and the services available. The NDIS introduced an approach, individualised giving eligible participants funding for reasonable and necessary supports based on their disability-related needs and goals.
Today, the NDIS plays an important role in helping people with disability build skills, pursue their goals and participate in their communities.
It's a great opportunity to look back at how disability support in Australia has evolved over the years!
