As of Monday March 1st, Simcoe/Muskoka is once again entering the Gray/Lockdown mode. Unfortunately. But as during the last Gray/Lockdown I am able to continue to provide Registered Massage Therapy. We continue to adhere to the strictest sanitation/health/safety protocols. Thankyou to everyone for your support this past almost year, it is greatly appreciated.

Not that this affects here in Collingwood, but good information to pass on

Yesterday morning in an interview on CBC, Dr. Williams, Ontario’s Chief Medical Officer of Health, stated that massage therapy was not allowed in the locked down areas, which was an inaccurate statement. Registered Massage Therapists are able to continue to practice in lockdown regions following the same precautions they followed throughout the course of the pandemic.

On a call with the Ministry Emergency Operations Centre this morning, which typically includes Dr. Williams and other senior ministry officials, Michael Feraday, RMTAO Executive Director, pointed out that this comment was inaccurate and misleading, and requested that Dr. Williams provide clarification in the media.

A statement will be made by the Government today in the media correcting this misstatement. In addition, the Ministry of Health has confirmed to other media sources and to health regulatory colleges that regulated health professionals are able to continue to operate.

Regrettably this has caused confusion with the public and in the profession. The Ministry’s position is that regulated health professions like RMTs and all other 26 regulated health professions continue to provide essential services to their patients. The College of Massage Therapists of Ontario has provided strict guidelines for RMT that ensure safety.

The RMTAO is advocating forcefully to ensure that this messaging is understood and reinforced.

RMTs in all regions of Ontario can continue to offer massage therapy services. It's a great time to review the precautions that RMTs take to keep themselves and their patients safe.

Hello to all my wonderful patients. It has been a long haul and it seems we may be close to finally being able to open again. I am hoping Massage Therapy will be included in the 2nd Phase of opening. If so, you will see my schedule availability is opened once again. I hope you are all well. Take care and I look forward to seeing everyone once again when the world right's itself once more.

Coronavirus disease (COVID-19): Outbreak update - Canada.ca

YOUR RMT PRACTICE
Some of our members have opted to close their practices temporarily to protect themselves and their clients. The current information from the Ministry of Health, Health Canada and the WHO does not indicate that this is necessary at this time, if proper and frequent hygiene is practiced. If the advisories change, we will be sure to update our members.
RMTs are able to implement policies to not treat patients that are showing flu-like symptoms. You can also impliment a policy to not treat individuals who have been outside of Canada for the past 14 days. The Ministry of Health recommends you undertake active screening (asking questions about symptoms and travel/exposures) , which can be done over the phone before the patient arrives, and passive screening (signage) of patients for COVID-19.
SYMPTOMS TO LOOK FOR:
According to Health Canada (https://www.canada.ca/en/public-health/services/diseases/2019-novel-coronavirus-infection.html), symptoms can include:
Fever
Cough
Shortness of breath
WHAT TO DO IF YOU DEVELOP SYMPTOMS AND FIT THE CASE DEFINITION (HTTP://WWW.HEALTH.GOV.ON.CA/EN/PRO/PROGRAMS/PUBLICHEALTH/CORONAVIRUS/2019_GUIDANCE.ASPX) OF A PROBABLE CASE OF COVID-19:
Step 1: Isolate yourself within the home as quickly as possible
Step 2: Call Telehealth Ontario: 1-866-797-0000
Step 3: Contact your public health unit (http://www.health.gov.on.ca/en/common/system/services/phu/locations.aspx)
Step 4: If advised, visit an assessment centre (https://news.ontario.ca/mohltc/en/2020/03/correction-province-implementing-enhanced-measures-to-protect-ontarians-from-covid-19.html)

An outbreak of pneumonia (called 2019 Novel Coronavirus, 2019-nCoV, or COVID-19) broke out in Wuhan China in late 2019. The situation is being closely monitored by the Public Health Agency of Canada. Status of public health risk to Canadians is updated on this web page.

Just an FYI to all my patients....with the Coronavirus scare please be assured all sanitation measures are priority one as always, both in the clinic and my treatment room. Your health is my number one priority. If you have recently been travelling and feel sick or fear you may have been exposed to Covid-19 don't hesitate to get in touch to reschedule any appointments you may have. Currently it is business as usual.
Your ongoing support of my business is extremely appreciated and your health is my top concern. Thankyou everyone.

Tomorrow is Psoriatic Arthritis Day.

Little did I know before learning it in college, that psoriasis can lead to a form of arthritis.

This is something you could see in your clinic at any time, so it's important to know a bit about it, how it's screened and what we can do to help.

So, we've got you covered! Give this post a read over and it will give you a few tools to recognize and help someone who comes in with this condition and needs some of your help.
