At 17, Maddie was told she may never ski again.

After 18 months of tests, surgeries and uncertainty, she was diagnosed with a severe form of osteoarthritis of the spine.

The sport she had loved since she was two was replaced by walkers, wheelchairs and canes—until she discovered adaptive skiing.

She took to it naturally and now has her eyes set on the Canadian Paralympic team.

But it took far too long to get there.

"Getting the right diagnosis took time and there were moments where I felt helpless," Maddie says.

Arthritis Action Now is calling for earlier diagnosis and better arthritis care, so no child has to put their life on hold while they wait for answers.

Arthritis doesn’t have to define a child’s future.

Shannon shows up so her daughter — and every child living with arthritis — can live a life shaped by their dreams, not their disease.

Arthritis Society Canada is here to help children and families find support, connection and community.

This is why we show up.

A run fueled by love and hope. đź’™

Hallie ran the Toronto Waterfront Marathon for the first time for her mom who was diagnosed with osteoarthritis seven years ago.

Hallie believes research and advocacy are key to improving the lives of people living with arthritis today — and in the future.

Her run was a heartfelt step toward a future with less pain and more possibilities.

You can still support Hallie and the other incredible runners by making a donation: https://raceroster.com/events/2026/111134/2026-tcs-toronto-waterfront-marathon/fundraising-organization/82550
