✨ Acne scars, fine lines, or uneven skin texture? Your skin's natural repair process may have a role to play!

Microneedling is a minimally invasive treatment that uses tiny, sterile needles to stimulate your skin's natural collagen production.

Over time, this process may help:

💜 Soften the appearance of acne scars
💜 Reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
💜 Improve uneven skin texture and tone
💜 Make enlarged pores appear less noticeable

But what happens during a microneedling appointment? What should you expect during recovery? And is it right for your skin?

In her latest blog, Dr. Karen McGee explains how microneedling works, what to expect before and after treatment, and why an individualized consultation matters.

✨ Curious about microneedling? Discover whether it might be worth exploring for your skin.

💜 What would you miss most if back pain got in the way?

Walking with friends. Playing with your kids. Gardening. Or simply getting through the day comfortably.

Our spine supports so many everyday activities, yet we often don't think about spinal health until discomfort begins to interfere with the things we enjoy.

🌎 Today, October 16, is World Spine Day!

This year's theme, "Spine Health for Life," reminds us that caring for our spine matters at every age.

According to the World Health Organization, low back pain is the leading cause of disability worldwide. But there are practical ways to support spinal health and mobility throughout life.

A few everyday habits worth remembering:

🚶 Keep moving: Regular physical activity can support mobility and function.
💪 Build strength: Choose exercises suited to your abilities and gradually build your strength.
🪑 Take movement breaks: Change positions regularly and consider how your workspace supports comfortable movement.
🌙 Prioritize recovery: Healthy sleep and other lifestyle habits play a role in managing back pain.

If persistent back pain is limiting your daily activities, a personalized healthcare assessment can help identify appropriate next steps.

At Integrative, we believe in understanding your individual health needs and goals when exploring approaches to pain, mobility, and recovery.

🍃 Your spine supports so much of what you love. Give it some attention today!

💜 Due for your cervical screening?

Regular cervical screening is an important part of preventive women’s health. A Pap test can help identify cervical cell changes early, before they have the opportunity to develop into more serious concerns.

As part of our commitment to accessible preventive care, we’re offering free Pap testing for eligible patients. HPV swab screening will also be available as an alternative, where appropriate.

True or false: Acne is only a teenage problem?

False.

Acne can occur at many stages of life. While it’s commonly associated with adolescence, it can persist into adulthood — or appear for the first time later in life.

Hormonal changes can also play a role. Some women experience acne around their menstrual cycle, during pregnancy, or through perimenopause and menopause.

And acne isn’t simply a cosmetic concern. For some people, it can affect confidence, emotional wellbeing, and quality of life, which is another reason appropriate care matters.

The right approach can depend on factors such as the type and severity of acne, your skin, your health history, medications, hormonal changes, and what you’ve already tried.

At Integrative, our Naturopathic Doctors can help you look at your health more broadly, discuss factors that may be relevant to your skin, and help determine appropriate next steps as part of an individualized care plan.

💬 When did you first realize acne wasn’t just a teenage concern?

🛡️ Zinc tends to get a lot of attention when fall arrives — but supporting immune function is only one of its jobs.

Pop quiz:
Zinc is a…
Vitamin? Mineral? Antioxidant?

If you picked mineral, you’ve got it.

Zinc is an essential trace mineral required for the activity of hundreds of enzymes and involved in many processes throughout the body. It plays important roles in normal immune function, wound healing, protein and DNA synthesis, cell division, and healthy growth and development.

Zinc is found naturally in many foods, including meat, seafood, eggs, dairy products, beans, nuts and whole grains. Oysters are particularly rich in zinc. Zinc from some plant foods may be absorbed less efficiently because naturally occurring phytates can reduce its absorption.

So while zinc often gets attention during cold and flu season, it matters throughout the year.

And when it comes to supplements, more isn’t necessarily better. Higher supplemental intakes over time can interfere with copper absorption, which is one reason the amount and duration of supplementation matter.

If you’re wondering whether you’re getting enough zinc — or whether supplementation may be appropriate for you — our Naturopathic Doctors can help you consider your diet, individual health needs, and overall nutrition plan.

💬 Which of zinc’s roles surprised you most — immune function, skin health, wound healing, or growth and development?

💙 Prostate cancer screening isn’t necessarily one-size-fits-all.

September is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month — an important reminder to understand your individual risk and keep conversations about prostate health and early detection from being put off.

Several factors can influence prostate cancer risk:
• Age: Risk increases with age, particularly after age 50.
• Family history: Having a first-degree relative — such as a father, brother or son — who has had prostate cancer can increase your risk.
• African or Caribbean ancestry: Men of African or Caribbean ancestry have a higher risk of developing prostate cancer.

Prostate cancer can develop without noticeable symptoms in its early stages, which is one reason conversations about testing can matter.

A PSA test is a blood test that can help find prostate cancer early, but deciding whether and when to be tested should be individualized. Your healthcare provider can help you consider your personal risk, the potential benefits and limitations of testing, your overall health, and what additional testing might involve.

This Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, take a moment to learn your family history, understand your individual risk, and bring any questions about prostate health or screening to your healthcare provider.

💬 Do the men in your family know their family history and prostate cancer risk?
