What happens when people don't know their options?

In Part 1 of The Adaptation Gap, we looked at the disconnect between knowing adapted driving exists and knowing how to access the support available.

But this isn't just an information gap. Our research shows it can have a real impact on people's everyday lives.

Among respondents who had reduced or stopped driving:

🔹 67% said it had reduced their independence
🔹 58% said it had increased their isolation
🔹 51% said they now rely more on family and friends
🔹 43% said it had made getting to medical appointments harder

But there's also a reason to be hopeful.

68% said clearer information and advice would make them more likely to continue driving, return to driving, learn to drive or explore ways to improve their driving experience.

Sometimes, knowing where to start can make all the difference.

We know adapted driving exists. But do we know where to start?

This summer, we surveyed 224 disabled people, carers and supporters to understand how much people know about vehicle adaptations, and what might be stopping them from exploring their options.

The results revealed a clear gap between knowing adaptations exist and knowing how to access them.

Swipe through to see some of the key findings from The Adaptation Gap 👇

And this is just part one. In our next post, we’ll look at what this information gap can mean for independence, confidence and everyday life.

Today we're at Occupational Therapy Adaptation Conference Cardiff!

It's been a great day so far, meeting occupational therapists and healthcare professionals, showcasing our vehicle adaptations and chatting about how we can support people to travel more independently.

We also had the chance to share more about Adapt & Drive and our OT CPD course, helping professionals build their knowledge around vehicle adaptations and the role they can play in supporting independence.

A big thank you to everyone who stopped by for a chat, it was great to see so many familiar faces and meet new ones too! 💙
