Hot yoga in a Far- Infrared heated yoga studio Back in September I said to Lucy “Red Light is having a bit of thing I’ll do a blog about the studio’s Far-Infrared heating when the first cold snap comes”. We chose Far-Infrared (FIR) heating panels to heat our hot yoga studio because quite sim...

This weeks Hatha warm-up 🤍

Jesse’s been doing: Lion’s Breath ➡️ neck stretches ➡️ seated twist ➡️ roll-downs

These shaky (and noisy) roll-downs are a great primer for practice as they release tension, awaken stagnant energy and encourage playfulness ✨

Yoga for Seasonal Affective Disorder

Fading daylight can put a great strain on your mood and energy for many reasons. For some people, this can go so far as to affect concentration, motivation and sleep. But for everyone the changing season can encourage you to restore balance, regulate mood and reconnect with your body’s natural rhythms. Give yourself permission to slow down. Throughout human history the winter season has been seen as a time to slow down and regenerate....

Yoga as a Form of Self-Care

A simple breath meditation goes something like this: Please begin by bringing your attention to the movement of your breath. Allow your mind to settle and to become more and more absorbed in the rhythm of your breathing. Become aware of any hidden tension in your body or your breath. Gradually notice that your breath is a perfect reflection of your mind....

Plank sequence using both external strength and internal strength 🔥

Starting with a solid plank, we press down with our hands with our shoulders above our wrists, keeping our core nice and engaged. Feeling a lift of the armpits and ribcage up towards the ceiling.

From there, we progress to a forearm plank starting to warm up those deep transverse abdominis muscles. Using a scooping of the tailbone and a rounding of the upper back to control the strength through the front of the body.

Finishing with a controlled dolphin pose to challenge stability and endurance. Maintaining alignment between shoulders, elbows and hands.

We’ve been doing this sequence in class this week and it’s one that always gets me a few looks 👀

✨focus: transverse abdominis, shoulders, deep core control
✨variation: taking knees to the floor for that extra support
✨vibe: intentional, slow and strong
