There’s something about working in this industry that I don’t think people fully understand unless they’ve experienced it.
We may only see our clients once or twice a month. Sometimes for an hour, sometimes for two. But somewhere between picking out nail colors, sharing stories, laughing until we cry, and occasionally crying together, these people become so much more than just appointments on our books.
We learn about their families, their jobs, their relationships, their struggles, and their celebrations. We watch their children grow up. We celebrate their milestones. We worry about them when life gets hard. And sometimes, long after they’ve walked out our doors, we find ourselves thinking about them.
What I don’t think our clients realize is just how much they mean to us.
You may think you’re just coming in to get your nails done, but to us, you’re a familiar face we look forward to seeing. You’re a story we remember. You’re someone we wonder about when we haven’t seen you in a while. You’re someone who leaves a little piece of yourself with us every time you sit in our chair.
And the truth is, you become part of our lives, too.
Today reminded me that this career has given me so much more than a way to make a living. It has brought people into my life that I otherwise may have never known. People who have made me laugh, taught me things, trusted me with their stories, and left impressions on my heart that they’ll probably never know about.
And sometimes, we don’t get another appointment. Another conversation. Another chance to tell them how much they’ve meant to us.
So, to every person who has ever sat across from me at my nail table, please know this:
YOU HAVE NEVER BEEN JUST A CLIENT TO ME.
You’ve been part of my days, my stories, my memories, and my life. And I hope, in some small way, I’ve been a bright spot in yours, too.
