Dried beans with no overnight soak: under pressure they cook straight from the bag. Rinse, add water (half full at most, beans foam), lock the lid, and let the pressure come down on its own. One pot of chickpeas on Sunday is hummus, salads and soups for the week. The full guide is in the first comment.

Salmon roasted on lemony lentils, cherry tomatoes and spinach, with toasted walnuts on top. One tray, two servings, about 35 minutes, and you only do about 10 of them.

The trick is giving the tomatoes and onion a 10 minute head start, so everything finishes at the same time. Full recipe in the first comment.

Plenty of lifters swear by an ice bath after the gym. Eight studies asked a harder question: does it cost you muscle?

The answer is small, and it comes with a catch. The pooled number was about minus 0.22, leaning against the ice, but the range (minus 0.47 to plus 0.04) still touches zero. So ice right after lifting may modestly trim muscle gain, and the data don't settle it.

Your heart eats what you eat. Five everyday foods with real science behind them: oats, beans and lentils, oily fish, nuts and extra virgin olive oil. The why for each one is in the video.

You don't need a new diet. Pick one and add it this week.

Save this for your next shop, and share it with someone whose heart you care about.

Sources: FDA (oats), CMAJ 2014 (beans and lentils), American Heart Association 2018 (fish), PREDIMED, NEJM 2018 (nuts and olive oil). General information, not medical advice.

Exhausted all day, wide awake at night? Your body hasn't forgotten how to sleep. Two forces run it: sleep pressure, which builds the longer you're awake, and your body clock, set by when you wake up and when you see light. Lie awake in bed night after night and your brain learns that bed means awake.

Tonight, if you're awake and it isn't coming, get up. Go to another room, keep the light low, do something calm, and come back when you feel sleepy.

Most hand training is one move on repeat: squeeze, squeeze, squeeze. Your hands do four jobs. Rows and carries already work your hold; the routine above gives the other three a few minutes each.

Open and spread the fingers. Bring the thumb to each fingertip. Lift and turn the wrist with the forearm supported. Then a short, slow squeeze set, 6 to 8 per hand, and a note of what each hand did. A soft ball or a pair of rolled socks is enough to start.

It fits after your strength sessions, twice a week, and it takes minutes.

Hands are one chapter of our free guide, Stop Training in Pieces: a four-week, whole-body routine from feet to fingertips, with 14 printable pages. Comment GRIP and we'll send you the guide and a printable grip routine chart.

Do you know the right way to use a grip trainer? Squeezing is one job. Your hands have four.

Open and spread your fingers. Thumb to each fingertip. Wrist lifts and turns, forearm supported. Then 6 to 8 slow squeezes per hand, and write down what each hand did. Twice a week, a few minutes, after your strength work.

Want the full four-week routine, feet to fingertips? Our free guide, Stop Training in Pieces, has it. The grip routine with three levels is on the blog, link in the first comment.

Don't wash your berries when you get home. Pick out the soft or crushed ones, store the rest dry with the lid on (away from apples and bananas), and rinse only what you're about to eat. Greens are different: wash those when you use them. Full guide on the VivaNutrition blog, link in the first comment.

Protein shake all over your gym bag? Again?

Shakers leak in three places: the lid thread, the flip cap and the seal. Warm or fizzy drinks make it worse, because that pressure has to go somewhere. Usually it's the cap.

The full fix, the ten-second towel test and our pick are in the guide. Link's in the first comment.

Rubbery egg muffins are a heat problem. Bake them at 160°C, not 200, whisk cottage cheese into the eggs and squeeze the veg dry first, and they come out soft. Twelve muffins, four breakfasts, about 25 g protein a serving of three.

The cases in the video are the Webake silicone cases our egg muffin recipe is baked in. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases.
