Autumn Botanical Still
Life, where the drama of a dark canvas (Tenebrism) meets the deep velvet warmth and rich highlights of seasonal florals.
A scene reminiscent of the baroque period, a coming together of fine art evolved to a new era where folk culture and traditional crafts bring about a new subject... a study and appreciation of the natural botanical beauty around us.
With masters of this movement stemming from Europe including Spanish artist Juan de Arellano, Bavarian artist Barbara Regina Dietzch, Dutch artists Rachel Ruysch and Jan Davidsz. De Heem.
The influence touched the shores of Mexico through colonization during the Spanish Golden Age and parts of the USA; Hudson River Valley (modern-day New York, New Jersey, and Delaware - in the 17th century, establishing New Amsterdam) Marking the Dutch Golden Age of homestead, craft and a new scientific botanical art.
