Bare with me here, this is worth a read!! 👇
Every year, as October approaches and Menopause Awareness Month looms, my phone at Health and Hormone Support starts ringing. Companies suddenly want a talk, just before the 18th. Then it all goes quiet for another 11 months. I refuse to offer my services to the demands of such. 🙄
Women deserve meaningful, year-round support, not a performative tick-box exercise. Yesterday, I spoke to a serving police officer.👮♀️
She'd been battling brain fog, anxiety, low mood, overwhelming exhaustion and depression during menopause. Instead of support, she was put on a performance management pathway because she was struggling with the job she loves! Not realising it was the impact of her falling hormones causing the debilitating inability to get on with her day, she then had to face a protocol that left her feeling further vulnerable and unsupported. 😡
That's not good enough! The police are often cited as progressive on menopause in the workplace. But if that's the case, then every woman in the force should feel that in practice, not just in policy documents or awareness campaigns.
Thankfully, she now understands what's happening and feels empowered to have an informed conversation with her GP about appropriate treatment. And start an incredible naturopathic patch routine I've recommend alongside. 🙌
But how many never get that chance? We cannot keep celebrating awareness months while women are left to struggle for the other 11 months of the year. If you value the experience and leadership of women, prove it with practical support, educated managers and a culture where asking for help doesn't risk a performance process.
Women don't need a campaign. They need action‼️
