Labour Day in New Zealand
Labour Day is a time to recognise the history of workers’ rights and the achievements of the labour movement in Aotearoa New Zealand.
Celebrated on the fourth Monday of October, Labour Day commemorates the long-standing campaign for an eight-hour working day — a principle famously championed by Wellington carpenter Samuel Parnell in 1840.
Today, we take a moment to reflect on the efforts that helped shape working life in New Zealand and the importance of fair working conditions.
Wishing everyone a safe and enjoyable Labour Day! 🌿
