One sleep to go!

Diabetes Action Month starts tomorrow.

To everyone in our diabetes community – this month is about you, your experiences and your voices.

This year, we’re shining a light on diabetes stigma and the impact that judgement, blame and misconceptions can have on everyday life.

Our final ambassador for One Million Minutes 2026 is the lovely Laura Snowden.

Laura was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at just eight years old. After finding her early teenage years a challenge, she decided to channel her lived experience into advocacy and leadership. She is a dedicated volunteer at Diabetes New Zealand Live Brave Mana Ora youth camps, returning to show her younger peers that living with a diabetes diagnosis doesn't stop you doing the things you enjoy and that connection and community with others is what keeps you going.

Learn more about why she decided to jump on board this year, and sign up while you're there!

Are you an adult living with type 2 diabetes?

Many people with type 2 diabetes experience stigma in healthcare settings, including being blamed, judged or treated differently because of their condition.

We’re conducting an international study to understand what receiving diabetes healthcare free from this stigma means and looks like to you.

Share your thoughts in a 20–25 min anonymous survey https://researchsurveys.deakin.edu.au/jfe/form/SV_9RfXjJjU6KbKqy2

This study has received Deakin University ethics approval (2026/HE000796)

Jess Kerr plays for the New Zealand women's national cricket team (White Ferns) on the international stage and the Wellington Blaze in domestic competitions and has never let diabetes stop her from achieving her goals. Next Sunday marks the start of Diabetes Action Month 2026.
This year, we’re focusing on something we know many in our diabetes community experience – stigma.

Throughout November, we’ll be sharing stories and experiences from our community, talking openly about diabetes stigma and how, together, we can help challenge it and support each other when it happens.

We look forward to you joining us and being part of the conversation.
