🎃 Happy National Pumpkin Day!

Skip the carving knife and try pumpkin play. Paint it, scoop the seeds for a sensory break, count and sort the seeds, then roast them for a snack. Offer gloves or a spoon for kids who would rather not touch the goo, and let your child choose their own level. Show us your pumpkins in the comments!

Fall is here, and so is our sensory-friendly bucket list!

🍂 Jump in a leaf pile.
🍎 Pick apples on a weekday morning when crowds are smaller.
🌽 Try a hayride or corn maze with planned breaks.
🎃 Paint pumpkins at home.
🌳 Go on a nature walk scavenger hunt.

A few tips: pack headphones and snacks, scout the crowd first, and head home when your child says, or shows, they are done. Which one is on your list this weekend?

+ ABA is a broad umbrella of teaching methodologies and intervention methods. ☂️
+ ABA can be broken down into three basic teaching methodologies for children with Autism and related developmental disabilities: discrete trial teaching, incidental teaching, and verbal behavior teaching.

🎃 Halloween is 11 days away, and a little prep goes a long way. Try the costume on for a few minutes at a time this week.

👻 Preview the night with pictures or a simple story: where you will go, who will be there, and how long you will stay.
👻 Practice "trick or treat" and "thank you," or pick a card or gesture instead.
👻 Plan an easy exit, and know that leaving early is a win. Some families use a blue bucket as an informal signal that a child may need extra time or may not speak. However your family celebrates is the right way.

🍝 Happy National Pasta Day! Before dinner, try some pasta play. Sort shapes by type or color, string penne on yarn for a necklace (great for fine motor skills), or scoop and pour dry pasta in a bin for a sensory break. Then cook it and taste how it changes. Let your child skip any texture that feels like too much, and supervise closely with little ones since small pieces can be a choking hazard.

🧁 It is National Dessert Day, so let's bake!

Baking with your child builds real skills. Measuring practices math, waiting for the oven builds patience, following the recipe teaches sequencing, and sharing the finished treat is a turn-taking win. An easy start: apple crisp or no-bake cookies with a picture recipe. Give your child one job, like stirring or pouring, and build from there.
