Why are we stopping skincare at the neck?
This is the leg of a 60-year-old client immediately after microneedling the front portion of her leg. (Swipe to see her first appointment consultation photo before we had started treatments)
As we age, we naturally lose collagen and elastin—the structural support that helps keep our skin thick, firm, and resilient. On the legs, that loss can show up as thinner, crepey skin and increasing laxity.
Microneedling creates thousands of controlled microscopic injuries in the skin. Those tiny injuries trigger the body’s natural wound-healing response, activating fibroblasts—the cells responsible for producing and remodeling collagen, elastin, and the extracellular matrix that supports our skin.
Think of collagen as the scaffolding underneath your skin.
As that scaffolding becomes weaker with age, the skin above it has less structural support. By stimulating collagen remodeling, we’re encouraging the dermis to rebuild and strengthen that framework from within.
Over a series of treatments, this can help mature skin become firmer, thicker, smoother and less crepey, improving the appearance of laxity and overall skin quality.
And collagen remodeling doesn’t end when your appointment does. The rebuilding process continues for weeks to months after treatment.
We put so much effort into keeping our faces healthy and youthful. Sooooo, I ask again, why stop at the neck?
