When Did We Stop Playing?

When did fun become something we had to earn?
After the work.
After the laundry.
After everyone else was taken care of.
After the list was finished.
Which is interesting...because the list is NEVER finished. 😂

Maybe joy doesn't belong at the bottom of the to-do list.
Dance naked in the bathroom.
Buy the ridiculous pumpkin.
Sing loudly in the car.
Wear the costume.
Jump in the leaves.
Laugh until you snort.

Coming home to yourself isn't only about healing the wounded parts.

It's remembering the playful parts too.

What sounds like fun today?

Trick or Truth? 🎃

Let's play!

👻 TRICK: I need everyone to like me.
🎃 TRUTH: I need to like the person I become around them.

👻 TRICK: Saying no makes me selfish.
🎃 TRUTH: A genuine no makes room for a genuine yes.

👻 TRICK: I should have everything figured out by now.
🎃 TRUTH: I'm allowed to keep becoming.

👻 TRICK: Strong women don't need help.
🎃 TRUTH: Strong women are human too.

👻 TRICK: I need to become a better version of myself.
🎃 TRUTH: Maybe I need to stop abandoning the version who's already here.

Your turn:
What "trick" are you ready to stop believing?

The No-Mask Moment

Here's your October experiment.
Once today, notice when you're about to perform.
You automatically agree.
You laugh when something isn't funny.
You apologize when you've done nothing wrong.
You minimize an accomplishment.
You say "whatever you want" when you actually have a preference.

Don't judge yourself.
Just notice.

Then quietly ask:
"What would the honest version of me say here?"

You don't even have to say it out loud. Yet.

First...let yourself hear it.
That's where revealing begins.

Maybe You're Not Too Much...

Too emotional.
Too opinionated.
Too loud.
Too sensitive.
Too ambitious.
Too spiritual.
Too independent.
Too much.
Or...
maybe you've spent too much time in places that required you to become smaller.

There is a difference.

I'm not suggesting we never examine ourselves. Self-awareness matters.

But before automatically shrinking, ask:
Am I actually too much—or have I simply learned to take up too little space?

Sit with that one.

Here's a deceptively difficult question:
What do you want?
Not what would be practical.
Not what everyone else needs.
Not what you should want.
Not what would make other people comfortable.

What.
Do.
You.
Want.

Maybe you don't know. And that's okay.

Try something smaller.
What do you want for dinner?
What music do you want to hear?
Where do you want to sit?
What do you want to do with one free hour?

Self-trust can begin with the smallest preferences.
Every time you listen, you become a little easier to hear.

Authenticity Isn't Oversharing...

Let's clear something up. Being authentic doesn't mean everyone gets access to you.

You don't have to tell everyone your story.
Share every wound.
Explain every decision.
Reveal every vulnerable part.
Privacy isn't dishonesty.
Discernment isn't hiding.
Boundaries aren't masks.

Authenticity means the person you show the world isn't continually betraying the person you know yourself to be.

You decide who earns access to your tender places.
That's not hiding.
That's wisdom.

Before releasing an old identity, ask something we often forget:
What did it give me?
Perfectionism may have given you recognition.
People-pleasing may have given you belonging.
Control may have given you a sense of safety.
Achievement may have given you confidence.
Being needed may have given you purpose.

This isn't about deciding those parts of you were "bad."

It's about recognizing that something can once have served us beautifully and still be ready to change.

We can honor what was...without remaining who we were.

Be nice.
Don't make trouble.
Don't hurt anyone's feelings.
Be grateful.
Keep the peace.
Don't be difficult.

Many women received these messages long before we were old enough to question them.

And being kind, compassionate, and considerate are beautiful qualities.

But kindness toward others was never supposed to require cruelty toward yourself.

You can be kind...and disagree.

Compassionate...and have boundaries.

Loving...and say no.

A good woman doesn't have to be an agreeable woman.

She gets to be a whole woman.

Being the strong woman can become an identity.
She handles things.
She solves problems.
She keeps going.

Everyone knows they can count on her.

But eventually something strange can happen.

Because she's so capable...people stop asking if she needs help.

And sometimes...she stops asking too.

Strength is beautiful.

But strength was never supposed to mean carrying everything alone.

Maybe strength can also sound like:
"I need some help."
"I don't know."
"I need to rest."
"I can't carry this today."

That's strength too.

Perhaps an even deeper kind.
