We have a website update to share! We've teamed up with Black River Webworks to host our site and help us with some changes we've been wanting to make.

We recently had a chance to sit down and talk about our website, some ideas we have for it, and what we'd like to do moving forward.

There are some updates still to come, and we're looking forward to seeing everything come together.

Just wanted to give Black River Webworks a shout-out and say thank you! We're looking forward to working together.

If you're looking for someone to host your website, take a minute to check out his page and the work he does.

One of the newer things we have on the shelves is a Ginger Honey Tonic!

It’s made with three ingredients: raw honey, raw apple c***r vinegar, and ginger root.

Ginger has been used to help with digestion and nausea, the honey adds some sweetness, and the apple c***r vinegar gives it that tangy kick.

I like that the ingredient list is short and you know exactly what’s in it!

Come check it out next time you’re in the shop!

Before pharmacies became what we know today, people visited herbal shops or apothecaries, where they could find herbs, roots, flowers, and other ingredients used for different health purposes.

These shops prepared teas, tinctures, powders, and syrups using plants and ingredients they had studied and learned about. A lot of that knowledge was shared and passed down through years.

Medicine has come a long way since then, but many of the herbs used back then are still around today. Peppermint, chamomile, ginger, dandelion and echinacea are just a few examples.

One of the things we enjoy is being able to offer a variety of herbs and teas while continuing to learn about their history and uses.

We carry loose-leaf teas and individual herbs, and we’re happy to share what we know and help you explore what we have.

I think it’s pretty neat to look back at how these shops got their start and see how some of those same herbs have made their way into shops like ours.

Halloween is a week away and we’ve got one request...

Don’t ghost the local small businesses!

We have so many cool small businesses here in Lorain, each with their own story and something different to offer.

And if you’re heading downtown for Lorain’s Trunk or Treat today from 11:00–12:30 at City Hall, take a walk around Broadway and visit some of the shops while you’re here.

We’re open until 3 today!

Have a great Saturday, everyone!

With the cooler weather coming in, I thought this would be a good time to share a little about some of the herbs used for respiratory support.

You’ve probably heard of mullein or slippery elm, but there are quite a few other herbs you might not be as familiar with.

This week we’re featuring Solaray Respiration Blend SP-3, one of the herbal formulas we carry here at the shop. Here are a few of the ingredients and why they’re included.

Mullein: One of the more known herbs for respiratory support, especially for those who enjoy herbal teas.

Horehound: You might recognize this one from old-fashioned cough drops. It’s used for coughs and throat irritation.

Slippery Elm: Contains mucilage, which forms a slippery coating when mixed with water and can help soothe irritated tissues.

Wild Cherry Bark: An ingredient found in herbal cough syrups, used to help with coughs and irritated throats.

Pleurisy Root: Used in herbal formulas to support the respiratory system and help break up mucus.

Plantain Leaf: Contains natural compounds that may help with irritation in the throat and airways.

Licorice Root: Has soothing properties that may help with throat irritation.

One thing I always encourage is taking a look at the ingredients in the products you’re buying. Even when it’s an herbal formula, it’s good to know what each ingredient is and what it’s there for.

Anybody else turn their heat on and wake up with a dry throat or a nose that feels irritated?

Once we start running the furnace more, the air inside can get dry. Here are a few things that may help:

• If the air in your home is dry, a humidifier may help. Just keep it clean and watch your humidity levels.

• Keep water nearby throughout the day.

• Warm tea with honey can feel good on a scratchy throat.

• Marshmallow root and slippery elm are two herbs that have been used to help relieve throat irritation.

If you’ve noticed your throat or nose feeling different since turning the heat on, dry air could be part of the reason.

It’s a chilly one out there this morning! It feels like a pretty good reason to grab a cup of tea.

We have a new tea on the shelf called Witch’s Brew. It’s made with black tea and butterfly pea flower, and has a caramel apple flavor.

Here from 9–3 today!

One of the things I like about natural health is there’s always something new to learn. It’s been an interest of mine for 15+ years.

I’m looking forward to learning more and bringing what I learn into what we do here.

We have some things we’d like to keep building on with the shop, and I’m excited to see where things go and how we can continue to be a resource for the community.

And thanks again to everyone who reached out with congratulations.
