The Henry County Sheriff’s Office will host the 31st National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, Oct. 24, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in partnership with the Drug Free Martinsville-Henry County Coalition and the Drug Enforcement Administration.

Residents can bring unused, unwanted or expired prescription medications to the sheriff’s office at 3250 Kings Mountain Road, Martinsville for free and anonymous disposal.

Accepted items include tablets, capsules, patches and other solid forms of prescription medication.

Liquid medications, including cough syrup, must remain in their original containers with caps tightly sealed.

Syringes, sharps and illicit drugs will not be accepted.

The initiative aims to prevent prescription drug misuse by providing a safe way to dispose of unneeded medications.

According to the sheriff’s office, the program has removed more than 20.4 million pounds of medication from circulation over the past 16 years.
