🦷 MEET THE DOCTOR | Dr. Carley 💚
Get to know another one of the amazing doctors behind the smiles at Covenant Dental!
We asked Dr. Carley a few questions about her passion for dentistry, her approach to patient care, her favorite aesthetic treatment, and life outside the office.
Here’s what she had to say! ✨
🦷 What sets our practice apart?
Think of us as the Swiss Army knife of dentistry, only with better lighting and significantly more suction. We’ve assembled a pretty impressive collection of brains, skills, and technology under one roof! From routine cleanings to complex surgeries, sedation, and facial aesthetics, there’s not much your smile can throw at us that we can’t tackle.
💚 What is your favorite part of being a dentist?
I’m a problem-solver at heart. I love taking a complicated situation, figuring out all the moving parts, and coming up with a solution that works for a patient’s health, goals, schedule, and budget. It’s a little like solving a puzzle, except the pieces are occasionally covered in saliva.
🪥 What do you wish every patient knew about oral health?
Sipping one soda over four hours can actually be harder on your teeth than drinking it with a meal! When it comes to oral health, frequency and time matter more than you might think. It’s not just WHAT you eat or drink, but how often and for how long. The same goes for brushing: twice a day is great, but ten seconds doesn’t count as a full performance. Your teeth are keeping score, even if you aren’t.
✨ What’s your best tip for maintaining a healthy smile?
Ditch the hard-bristled toothbrush! Your teeth aren’t a dirty casserole dish, and your gums don’t need to be scrubbed into submission. A soft-bristled toothbrush actually does better because it flexes to get between teeth. Brushing harder doesn’t mean brushing better. Be gentle! You’re cleaning your teeth, not sanding a deck.
🤍 How do you help nervous patients feel comfortable?
I start by meeting people where they are and matching their energy. If you need calm and reassurance, I’ve got you. If humor and a little sarcasm help, we’ll probably get along great! Most importantly, I remind patients that they’re human. Life happens, teeth happen, and sometimes things fall apart. There’s no shame in that. My job isn’t to judge how you got here; it’s to help you figure out where we go from here. We’re on the same team!
🦷 What’s one dental myth you’d love to debunk?
That having dental problems doesnt mean you’ve done something wrong! Teeth don’t come with a lifetime warranty, and we’re asking them to last 80, 90, sometimes 100 years! That’s a whole lot of chewing, grinding, coffee, and birthday cake. Genetics, medical conditions, medications, and plain old wear and tear all play a role in oral health. A cavity or a broken tooth isn’t a character flaw. You’re human, and your teeth have been working overtime, so be sure to give yourself some grace. My job isn’t to judge them (or you); it’s to help keep them going!
🌿 What is your favorite laser treatment you offer in-office?
My favorite is Alma Opus! Basically, we’re convincing your skin to renovate itself without demolishing the whole building. It uses tiny pulses of energy to kick-start your skin’s natural healing process and stimulate collagen production, helping smooth fine lines, wrinkles, acne scars, and uneven skin texture. What I love most is that we can adjust the treatment to fit each patient’s goals and downtime.
🏡 What do you enjoy doing when you’re not creating healthy smiles?
I collect hobbies the way other people collect stamps, except mine usually require power tools, livestock, or a building permit. My husband and I have four kids and a hobby farm, so “free time” is a fairly theoretical concept at our house. Between the kids, animals, and an ever-growing list of projects, there’s never a dull moment. I love building things, learning new skills, and finding new adventures for our family.
💚 At Covenant Dental, we’re proud to have Dr. Carley on our team! Her combination of expertise, humor, creativity, and compassionate care helps patients feel comfortable, confident, and genuinely cared for.
