Soft corns (heloma molle) are areas of painful, moist, thickened skin that can be found between the toes of people who wear footwear that is too narrow for the shape and size of their foot.

As podiatrists we often hear from patients "...but my shoes are comfortable!" in disbelief that their favourite footwear could be the culprit.

So here's the test ->->->

Grab a pen and paper and trace around your foot

Remove the foot bed from your shoe and place on top of the foot tracing. If you can see any of the lines, your shoe is too narrow in those areas.

Poor footwear can cause a multitude of problems. How healthy are your shoes?

Follow these simple lacing techniques to improve the fit and comfort of your shoes ➡️

Skip eyelets toward the toes to allow the uppers of your shoe to relax away from the foot and create space for the forefoot. Great for a wide forefoot, mortons neuromas and bunions.

Lace up instead of across at the midfoot to accommodate a high arch foot. Also great for midfoot arthritis, and toe extensor tendonitis.

The friction between the laces with this technique prevents the lace from slipping, creating a firm hold around the upper part of the foot and locking your heel into place.
Great for people with small heels, tight calves, and anyone trying to prevent rubbing or blisters on the back of the heel.

It can be hard to know what shoes are best for your child. For healthy, growing feet follow 3 simple rules.

1. Foot shaped. Shoes should respect the shape of the foot!
2. Flexible. A shoe shouldn't restrict the natural movement of a healthy foot!
3. Flat. The thickness of the sole should be the same from toe to heel.
