🏊Tag the swimmer whose shoulder always flares mid season.

A competitive swimmer takes over 1 million shoulder revolutions across a season. Shoulder pain is the single most common complaint in the sport, and it is almost always a load tolerance problem rather than a structural one. Volume climbed. Capacity did not.

The shoulder is where it hurts.
It is rarely where it started.

Where it actually starts
Scapular control fatigues late in the session and the
humeral head loses its platform 7 A stiff thoracic spine pushes the shoulder to find range it does not have
Hip and trunk capacity drops, body position sinks, and the arm works harder for the same distance. A weak kick means the shoulder drags the whole
body

So we test what actually matters Internal and external rotation strength and ratio on a dynamometer rather than a manual guess. Scapular endurance under fatigue, because the failure happens at metre 1400 and not metre 100. Thoracic rotation and extension. Trunk and hip capacity.

Then the program loads the posterior cuff properly, builds overhead strength through range, and periodises volume with the coach rather than around them.

Rest fixes it for two weeks and guarantees it comes back, because rest lowers capacity while the season keeps climbing.

From 55 kg to 108 kg on the operated leg. 💥

This is what ACL rehab done properly looks like.

When Marco first tested on our VALD DynaMo, his right quad was producing about half the force it needed to. Today it hit 108.3 kg, with the left at 102.8 kg. That’s both legs up 11% since last test and sitting in the 97th to 99th percentile.

Limb symmetry? Over 95%. Goal smashed. 👊

His confidence score for returning to sport is now 82, and that matters just as much as the numbers on the screen.

It wasn’t a straight line. There were weeks where the knee felt off and the numbers stalled. He kept turning up anyway.

Strength is the foundation, not the finish line. Next up we’re sharpening landing control and reactive work before he’s back on the field.

If you or someone you know is rehabbing an ACL and isn’t sure where they’re at, testing gives you the answer. 📈

Send this to someone in the middle of their rehab, or DM us “ACL” to book a strength assessment. 🤝

The PURE study followed around 140,000 adults across 17 countries and found that each 5kg reduction in grip strength was associated with meaningfully higher risk of all cause and cardiovascular death. In that analysis grip strength was a stronger predictor of mortality than systolic blood pressure.

A hand test predicts that much because it is not really a hand test. Grip is a proxy for total body muscle mass and neuromuscular function. Muscle is your biggest glucose disposal site, your protein reserve when you get sick, and your protection when you fall.

It also predicts the practical outcomes. Longer hospital stays. Slower recovery after surgery. Higher falls and fracture risk. Earlier loss of independence

Commonly used sarcopenia cut offs sit around 27kg for men and 16kg for women, below which further assessment is warranted. A single reading is a data point, not a diagnosis, which is why the retest matters more than the first number.

The good news is that it is trainable, and it moves fastest when whole body strength moves.

Ninety seconds. One tool. Most people have never had it done.

Your Achilles doesn’t need more rest.
It needs a plan 🦵
Settle it, strengthen it, then put the spring back in.

💾 Save this if your Achilles has been niggling for weeks.

📩 Send this to your mum, or to any woman over 50 who has been told to just keep walking.

Around 1 in 2 Australian women over 60 will sustain a fracture related to poor bone health. Walking will not prevent it.

🦴 Bone remodels in response to high magnitude strain. Duration is not the signal, force is. That is why swimming, cycling and walking do so much for cardiovascular health and so little for hip and spine density.

🇦🇺 The Australian LIFTMOR trial at Griffith University is the reference point here.
Postmenopausal women with low bone mass trained twice a week for 30 minutes using heavy deadlifts, overhead press, back squats and impact loading. Lumbar spine bone density improved by roughly 3%, along with strength, function and height. The low intensity control group lost ground.

Supervised heavy loading in this population was safe.
Avoiding it is what is not safe.

The complete picture
🏋️Heavy, supervised resistance training
🤸Balance, reactive stepping and lower limb power for falls
🥛Protein, calcium around 1300mg a day for women over 50, vitamin D checked

If you have a DXA result showing osteopenia or osteoporosis, that is a starting point, not a stop sign.

🥊 8 WEEKS. FIGHT CAMP DONE. THE DATA SPEAKS. 📊

Abs just wrapped up his end of camp testing at ClinEx and the numbers are 🔥

We tested him early in camp and again at the end using VALD ForceDecks and Dynamo. Here’s what changed 👇

🏋️ Max Strength (IMTP Peak Force): 3,045 N ➡️ 4,106 N (+34.8%)

🚀 Jump Height: 27.3 cm ➡️ 31.7 cm (+16.2%)
⚡ Peak Power: 4,218 W ➡️ 4,704 W (+11.5%)
🔁 RSI-modified: 0.41 ➡️ 0.51 (+25%)

🐇 Hop Test (reactive, springy, fast off the floor):
📈 Hop Height: 10.2 cm ➡️ 14.5 cm (+42.5%)
💥 Peak Force: 3,772 N ➡️ 4,198 N (+11.3%)
⏱️ RSI: 1.49 ➡️ 1.73 (+16.2%)

🔍 We also tracked his shoulder rotation strength with VALD DynaMo throughout camp, keeping a close eye on how his body handled the load heading into fight night.

What does that mean in the ring? 🤔
✅ Over 1,000 N more force to drive through every punch, clinch and takedown
✅ More power from the ground up
✅ Quicker reactions and sharper footwork
✅ Explosiveness that holds up when the rounds get tough

This is why we test, not guess. Every block of training is built on data, and every result is measured. 🔬

Abs, the work is done. Now go put it on display. 🙌🏆

Send this to someone six months post ACL reconstruction who is itching to get back.

Grindem and colleagues found that each month return to sport was delayed, up to nine months, was associated with roughly a 51% reduction in reinjury rate. Athletes who met objective discharge criteria reinjured far less often than those who did not.

Six months is a graft healing timeline. It is not a readiness test. The graft can be structurally fine while the quadriceps is still 20% down and the landing mechanics are still wrong.

Readiness is measured
1. Quadriceps limb symmetry above 90% 🦵
2. Hamstring to quadriceps ratio. 🦘
3. Full hop test battery📊
4.Force plate jump and landing data🧠
5. Psychological readiness, which predicts return outcomes on its own

The braking phase is where most athletes are still failing at six months. They have their jump back before they have their landing back, and the landing is where the second injury happens.
