WHO WE ARE

Behind MK Skin & Wound is a story of passion, purpose and a vision to make specialised healthcare more accessible to our regional communities.

Since establishing in March 2025, we've had the privilege of supporting patients, collaborating with fellow healthcare professionals and creating conversations around the importance of proactive, personalised healthcare.

But our journey is about more than the services we offer. It's about the people we've met, the relationships we've built, the awareness we've created and the conversations we've started along the way.

We're so excited about the impact we hope to continue making.

Small clinic. Big vision. A passion for making a difference.

Do I need to get completely undressed for a skin check?

Absolutely not! 🤍 Your comfort and privacy are always our priority.

During a full-body skin check, we aim to examine as much of your skin as possible, but this does not mean you need to be completely naked.

You can keep your underwear on, and we use towels or draping to ensure you remain covered throughout your appointment.

We simply expose one area at a time to examine your skin before covering it again.

Sensitive areas are only examined with your consent, and you are always in control of what you feel comfortable having checked.

At MK Skin & Wound, we want you to feel comfortable, respected and reassured throughout your entire appointment.

Your skin check, your comfort, your choice.

When should post-surgery lymphatic drainage commence?

This depends on the type of surgery, wound healing and the surgeon's recommendations. MLD should only commence once clinically appropriate, particularly where there is a risk of blood clots, infection or other postoperative complications.

MLD is commonly considered following procedures such as liposuction, abdominoplasty, breast surgery and some orthopaedic procedures.

At MK Skin & Wound, postoperative MLD can be tailored to your individual recovery needs following an assessment by a qualified lymphoedema practitioner.

☀️ When was your last skin check?
Your skin is constantly changing, and not all skin cancers are obvious to the naked eye.

🔎 Why have a 12-monthly skin check?

✨ Early detection can save lives.

✨ Skin cancers can develop in areas you can't easily see.

✨ Not all skin cancers look like a suspicious mole.

✨ Regular checks help identify new or changing lesions.

✨ A baseline skin assessment allows us to monitor changes over time.

At MK Skin & Wound, our comprehensive full-body skin checks include a head-to-toe assessment using dermoscopy, including your scalp, ears, fingers, toes and other easily missed areas.

💛 Your skin deserves more than a quick glance.

Annual skin checks may be appropriate for some people, while others require more frequent monitoring depending on their individual risk.

Lymphoedema can affect the arms, legs and other areas of the body, causing swelling, heaviness, discomfort, tightness and changes to the skin.

A lymphoedema practitioner can help with:

- Comprehensive assessments
Identifying swelling, assessing circulation, taking limb measurements and evaluating skin changes.

- Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD)
A specialised, gentle massage technique designed to encourage lymphatic fluid movement.

- Compression therapy
Measuring and fitting compression garments and applying specialised bandaging to help manage swelling.

- Lipoedema management
Supporting people experiencing painful, disproportionate fatty tissue accumulation, often affecting the legs.

- Pneumatic compression therapy
Using specialised compression pumps where clinically appropriate.

- Skin care and prevention
Reducing the risk of skin breakdown, infections and complications.

- Education and ongoing management
Providing personalised strategies involving movement, exercise, compression and self-care.

Squamous Cell Carcinoma (SCC) is a common type of skin cancer that develops in the squamous cells of the outer layers of the skin. It is most often linked to cumulative UV exposure and commonly appears on sun-exposed areas.

SCC can present in different ways, including a scaly or crusted patch, firm raised lump, non-healing sore, thickened area or tender lesion.

Unlike some slower-growing skin cancers, SCC has the potential to grow deeper and spread, making early detection and treatment important.

CRYOPEN — OUR TARGETED LESION REMOVAL

Remove those pesky skin lesions that catch on clothing, bothers you cosmetically or you’re simply ready to get rid of?

CryoPen uses precision cryotherapy to target and freeze suitable benign skin lesions with minimal impact on the surrounding healthy skin.

CryoPen may be suitable for: • Skin tags
• Cherry angiomas
• Seborrhoeic keratoses
• Warts
• Other suitable benign lesions

Before treatment, we assess the lesion to ensure it is appropriate for CryoPen. Suspicious or uncertain lesions are not treated and may require further assessment or referral.

A baseline skin check gives you a clear starting point for what is normal for your skin. During the check, existing moles and lesions can be assessed and, where appropriate, photographed so they can be compared at future appointments.

This is important because some skin cancers may first show themselves through change over time — such as changes in size, shape, colour or appearance — rather than being obviously concerning at a single appointment.

For people with lots of moles, significant sun exposure, fair skin, a history of sunburn or a personal/family history of skin cancer, having that baseline can be particularly valuable.

A lymphoedema practitioner is a health professional with additional training in assessing and managing lymphoedema and lymphatic swelling.

Lymphoedema occurs when the lymphatic system cannot adequately drain fluid from the tissues, causing persistent swelling. It can occur after surgery or cancer treatment, following damage to the lymphatic system, or because of an underlying lymphatic condition.

A lymphoedema practitioner may:
-Assess swelling, skin changes, limb shape and symptoms such as heaviness, aching or tightness.
-Take detailed limb measurements and monitor changes over time.
-Assess for signs that may suggest other causes of swelling and determine when further medical investigation or referral is needed.
-Provide manual lymphatic drainage (MLD) where appropriate.
-Use and prescribe compression therapy, including compression garments and bandaging.
-Provide education about skin care, exercise, movement and cellulitis prevention.
-Help patients access appropriate compression garments and other lymphoedema-management equipment.
-Develop an individualised long-term management plan to help control swelling and maintain mobility and quality of life.

Importantly, a lymphoedema practitioner doesn't simply “massage fluid away.” The role involves clinical assessment, identifying contributing factors and creating an ongoing management strategy for the lymphatic system.
