This last week of June 2026 has been, albeit it beyond full, stressful and hectic, was also extremely special. During this time frame, I achieved not just one, but two important goals this summer related to my two passions:

(1) Completing a 2 year acupuncture mentorship in the 8 Extraordinary Vessels (8EV) in the treatment of psycho-emotional disorders;

(2) Achieving my 3rd Kyu rank at Aikido.

Here are just a few of the MANY things we've tackled this October using Community Acupuncture!

If you are unfamiliar with the wonders of Community Acupuncture, in a nutshell, it is acupuncture treatments offered in a supportive group setting at $30-60 sliding scale rates. We provide treatments consisting of distal points (arms, legs, head, ears) while comfortably
lying in zero gravity recliner chairs.

Acupuncture is a dose dependent therapy and that the benefits are achieved by frequency, and less so by individual doses. Therefore, the
appropriate treatment plan is key in assisting the gradual process for resolving issues and promoting recovery. It becomes more accessible
for clients to access as much treatment as often as they need.

Community acupuncture = affordable and accessible holistic health care.

The Earth element manifests at the end of every season. Some sources mention that it manifests during the last 10 days of every season, but most commonly is identified at the end of the summer. Earth represents nourishment, a beginning and an end, a seed and fruit. Stomach and Spleen are the most active organs during this period manifesting their capacity for transformation and nourishing. In a physical way it refers to food and their assimilation processes, and distribution of the food Ki into the blood.

Our bodies are a well of information that is sometimes neglected in therapy. We often notice – and sometimes ignore – pains, discomfort or unusual feelings in our body. These sometimes have a purely physical explanation, while other sensations in our body might be linked to unexpressed emotion, or even suppressed memories. There is a distinct crispness in the air. The days are gradually getting shorter, trees are starting to show their vibrant reds, yellows and oranges and wildlife is either beginning their seasonal migration or gathering stores in preparation for winter. There is the seasonal abundance of apples, pears, root veg, alliums and squash. We are winding down from the high Yang, expansive energy of the Summer and and entering into the declining, introspective and more Yin season of Fall.

Fall means a lot of beautiful things are coming our way, but it also means we are entering a season of peak illness. Thankfully, herbs are here for us (as always), with their medicines and magic to help our bodies adjust and prepare for this seasonal shift. Like with most things, there’s a lot of nuance around which herbs are best suited to specific illnesses, and people, but the herbs and suggestions below are a good place to start.

Where did the time go?

We are now entering the 3rd year in our new Quadra Village home and our 16th year of practice!! It’s been another action packed year of providing our community accessible, vital and traditional health care. With the sudden shift in the season, we look forward to intentionally and quietly tucking into another busy year of care work.
