Ten seconds, one sip of water, and a mirror. That’s all this check takes. 🪞

Swallow and look for three things: lips that squeeze, a chin that wrinkles, or a tongue that slides forward against your teeth.

Seeing even one of them is a good reason to reach out.

I don’t usually celebrate someone sticking their tongue out, but this one deserved it! 👅🎉

Take a look at these photos to see what brought this client in, how therapy and a tongue-tie release worked together, and what changed beyond the tongue.

Every person is different, and so are their results.

Follow my page for more real stories and the “why” behind them. 💙

So you dipped into your kid’s stash...and now your jaw is letting you know about it.

A sore jaw, tight temples, or a headache the next morning isn’t always just from chewing. How your tongue rests, how your teeth come together, and how you breathe at night all play a role in jaw tension.

One holiday shouldn’t cause lasting pain. But if it does, that’s a pattern, not a fluke.

Most of us were never taught how to use nasal spray 👃 So we point the nozzle straight up, and it hits the bridge of the nose instead of where it should go 😅

Here’s the gentler way:
👃 Blow your nose gently first
⬇️ Tip your head slightly forward
✋ Use the opposite hand and aim toward the outer corner of your eye
🌸 Sniff softly, not a big snort
🔁 Switch sides
👅 Press your tongue to the roof of your mouth and hum 🎶

Why hum? The vibration helps move air through your sinuses. Keeping your tongue up keeps your lips sealed, so you’re breathing through your nose.

Why daily? It clears out dust, allergens, and buildup, so breathing through your nose stays easy. That matters for kids and adults alike.

💧 My go-to is Xlear: gentle saline with xylitol, and no medication.
🧼 Wipe the tip after each use, and keep your bottle to yourself.

If you’re using a medicated spray, follow the directions from your doctor or pharmacist.

Questions about mouth breathing or congestion? I’m happy to talk it through.

The spookiest sounds this Halloween might be coming from the bedroom. 🦇

Loud snoring, grinding teeth, sleeping with the mouth open, and restless tossing all night can show up in kids and adults alike. Each one is a clue on its own.

These night-time habits can be associated with how someone breathes and where their tongue rests during sleep, and myofunctional therapy may help support better sleep.

Sleeping 10 hours and still waking up tired isn’t a parenting problem — it’s a breathing problem.

When kids mouth breathe at night, their body is working harder than it should just to get enough air. That effort interrupts deep sleep even when they never fully wake up.

Myofunctional therapy helps retrain the tongue and breathing patterns so rest actually feels like rest.

If your teeth have shifted after orthodontic treatment, it’s not just because you stopped wearing your retainer.

Teeth move in the direction of pressure. If the tongue rests low, pushes forward during swallowing, or the lips don’t close easily at rest — that pressure is constant, and it’s stronger than any wire.

Myofunctional therapy addresses the muscle patterns that cause relapse. A lot of adults come to Lori after their second round of braces wondering why nothing is sticking. This is usually why.

If you’ve had jaw pain for years and nothing has fully helped — a night guard, adjustments, physical therapy — it’s worth asking one question nobody may have asked yet.

Has anyone looked at your tongue?

When tongue mobility is restricted, the jaw compensates. When the jaw compensates every day for years, it starts to break down. That’s often the missing piece in TMD cases that don’t respond to standard treatment.

At Buffalo Myo, Lori assesses tongue function as part of every evaluation — because the joint rarely tells the whole story.
