Still efficient while traveling, thanks to LCP Builder!
We advise our job placement clients to remember that the employer is also being interviewed when they meet about a job. It’s a job seeker’s market— and if their “spidey sense” steers them away from an employer it may be for good reason.

This is one reason our offices are closed from mid-December through the second week of January every year. This allows our staff to re-charge and spend time with family, and not feel pressured to work. They still can if they would like during this period, but it is not required.
It’s been a grueling year so far, and many of us here are already looking forward to a nice break over the winter holidays.
As workers quit in record numbers, some companies are trying address burnout with a new approach to vacations: shutting down the entire office.
I started as a Rehabilitation Counselor with the State of Utah 15 years ago today. So grateful for the many opportunities afforded to me since August 6, 2006.
Here’s to 15 more years of growth, learning and perfecting my craft!
We are performing an increasing number of Workers’ Compensation cases in Idaho.
Completing the CIWCS training was yet another building block in the structure of education and expertise it takes to perform thorough analyses of earning capacity and compose defensible reports for both Claimant and Defense in these types of cases.
Citing your mother’s work in your own=priceless.
I can’t believe it’s been 10 years since I authored this article in ABVE’s “The Vocational Expert” newsletter.
Fun fact, I later became the Editor of “The Vocational Expert” when I was elected Secretary of the American Board of Vocational Experts (ABVE).
So grateful for my mentors, including my mother, whom have helped me continue to develop my craft and still support me even all these years later.
Today’s office view.
Officially submitted for publication 12/29/2020, two days ahead of schedule.
Although it is a white paper, the intent of this work is that it will be viewed as a COVID-19 primer for rehabilitation, life care planning and economic professionals both now and into the future.
Slated for publication in the Journal of Life Care Planning COVID-19 Special Issue, March 2021.
4+ months of work (and even many more months of prior cogitation) have finally come to fruition, thanks to the endless support of my family, colleagues and mentors.
The CVE credential has recently been reinvigorated by the CRCC (Commission on Rehabilitation Counselor Certification) after many years of hiatus.
The CVE (or Certified Vocational Evaluator), paired with the IPEC credential, is the Gold standard for vocational evaluators in any setting.
We’re pleased to announce that Kourtney Layton applied for the CVE credential and was approved as of yesterday, December 2, 2020. This will add to the many credentials achieved by Ms. Layton, ensuring that she is able to provide the highest standard of care for her clients and forensic evaluees.
We’re taking some time to re-brand. After 11 years, we figured it was time!
Excited to roll out the new website in November.
How are you keeping things fresh for your business and clientele in 2020?

October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month.
People with disabilities can make meaningful contributions in the workplace. Sadly, they’re not always given the opportunity to do so.
Let’s fight to expand employment access for this often unserved population. There’s so much CRCs can do to help:
- coach clients on employment searching
- advocate with employers
- help raise awareness of the benefits of employing people with disabilities

What will the world of work look like post-COVID?
The pandemic has shown employees and employers alike that there’s value in working from home — at least, some of the time.
Presenting today at the Idaho State Bar Association Annual Worker’s Compensation seminar.
Socially-distanced and masked, of course.
COVID-19 has really made its mark in Utah.

Human Capital is gained through on-the-job experience, and is a key factor in the hiring/firing process for both persons with disabilities and those without any barriers.
It’s going to be interesting to see how this plays out.
Those entering the job market in a downturn may never catch up in pay, opportunities or confidence.
Amazing inclusivity!

Kourtney Layton is the most credentialed vocational expert witness in Utah and Idaho. But even credentials aren't enough-- keeping skills sharp ensures thorough vocational analyses and top performance on the stand.
Although our Fiscal year is just coming to an end, we're already planning out our continuing education for 2019. On the agenda for next year is SEAK's "Advanced Testifying Skills for Experts: The Master's Program".
Does your expert continually invest in themselves?
We process upwards of 100 cases per year, but only 1-2% of those ever go to trial or deposition. Our goal is to provide a thorough examination and report, which helps resolve cases quickly and save money. Does your vocational expert do that?

The turn around from interview to this unprecedented jury verdict was just 6 short months.
A Bonneville County jury awarded 7.96 million to Shane and Rebecca Ackerschott in a medical malpractice claim against Mountain View Hospital and its urgent care clinic, RediCare.
