🌟NOVEMBER THEME — WELLNESS FOUNDATIONS

When we spend much of our time dealing with mental health challenges, substance use, or just trying to get through each day, it's easy to lose sight of our own needs. Living in survival mode can make it difficult to recognize what helps us feel well, develop healthy habits, or focus on the kind of life we want to build.

Throughout November, we'll explore what wellness means to each of us, how to recognize warning signs and patterns, different ways of coping with challenges, managing stress, and creating routines that support our everyday lives.

The purpose of these discussions is to better understand ourselves, recognize our strengths and needs, develop practical skills, and build confidence in making our own decisions.

Wellness isn't about doing everything right or having all the answers. It's about learning what works for us, recognizing when something needs to change, and developing the ability to take a more active role in our own lives.

The La Crosse Lighthouse is led by peers because we believe there's value in learning alongside others who understand what it's like to face these challenges. We bring our lived experiences, share different perspectives, and learn from one another. No one has all the answers, and that's the point. We're figuring things out together.

NEXT WEEK WE'RE MOVING!!!! WATCH FOR OUR NEW ADDRESS LATER THIS WEEK! DOWNTOWN LOCATION

For our last week at 333 Rose:

OCTOBER 26–30: GOALS & ACCOMPLISHMENTS
What do we want to work toward?

This week at The La Crosse Lighthouse, we'll explore setting goals that reflect what WE want for our lives, breaking them into manageable steps, and learning how to move forward when things don't go as planned.

We'll also recognize something we often overlook-how far we've already come. Progress isn't always obvious, and accomplishments don't have to be big to matter.

Moving beyond survival means recognizing that we have strengths, choices, and the ability to shape our own future.

Come as you are. Let's figure this out together.

OCTOBER 19–23 | INTERESTS & TALENTS
What are we curious about?

When we spend much of our lives in survival mode, our focus is often on getting through the day. We're so busy managing challenges, meeting immediate needs, and figuring out what's next that we don't always have the time, energy, or opportunity to discover what interests us or what we're good at.

Over time, we can lose touch with the parts of ourselves that exist beyond our struggles. We may forget what we enjoy, what makes us curious, or what we're capable of.

Our interests, talents, and potential don't disappear just because life has been difficult. Sometimes we just need the opportunity to rediscover them.

This week at The La Crosse Lighthouse, we'll explore our interests, hobbies, curiosity, and talents—both those we already recognize and those we haven't discovered yet.

Building a life beyond survival isn't just about learning how to manage challenges. It's also about discovering who we are, what we enjoy, and what makes life meaningful to us.

Why we’re creating something new at the La Crosse Lighthouse

Over the past five years, we’ve learned a lot by listening to the people who walk through our doors.

Our respite program was created to meet a real need, but ultimately, the cost of providing respite in that way wasn’t sustainable. As we looked at what came next, we didn’t just ask, “What program can we afford to offer?” We asked a different question:

“What are people actually needing?”

Again and again, we saw something bigger.

Many of us were never taught how to do life outside of survival mode.

When we struggle with mental health challenges or substance use, getting help can sometimes mean giving up pieces of ourselves along the way. Decisions get made for us. Our choices become defined by our struggles. We learn how to survive, but sometimes lose connection with who we are in the process.

Over time, autonomy can become something we have to relearn.

So we decided to create something different.

A space where lived experience matters. A space where people can learn about themselves, discover their strengths, build skills, explore their dreams, and begin to see themselves as more than the worst moments or choices in their past.

Because we are more.

We have skills.
We have dreams.
We have strengths.
We have creativity.
We have the ability to grow and be successful.

And who better to walk alongside us in that process than people who understand what it’s like?

At the La Crosse Lighthouse, we know that people are more than the things they have been judged for. We see the person beyond the diagnosis, the substance use, the mistakes, the crisis, or the past.

This new program is about creating a place where we can discover what comes next together.

Not another place that tells people who they should be.

A place where we can learn, grow, reconnect with ourselves, and create a new way forward together.

Recovery isn't just about leaving something behind. It's about discovering who you are and what you can become.
