This presentation introduces HIV Out Loud, a collaborative project between community members, medical students, and the P.I. Nixon Medical Historical Library. The project explores the critical role of stigma in the ongoing HIV epidemic and highlights how public history can be used as a tool for change.

By training medical students as oral historians and partnering with people living with HIV to share their stories, HIV Out Loud builds a digital archive that humanizes the epidemic and reshapes medical education.

Stop by the library to view the 2025 Connective Tissue exhibit, presented by CMHE.

This year's exhibit pays homage to the tradition of gathering around the hearth, where stories pass from one generation to the next. This collection has been curated to act as a collective hearth.

This month we're featuring the P.I. Nixon Library for National Library Week!

Did you know the Nixon has copies of historical texts such as De Humani Corporis Fabria and The Canon of Medicine? It also houses the university archives, which includes copies of the HSC News back to 1968!

Dr. Bonde is back! Assistant Professor of Abdominal Radiology Dr. Apurva Bonde shared her paintings with us last year, and we're happy to have her artwork back in the library.

Dr. Bonde's work often features flowers, plants, and landscapes in captivating colors.

You can view her work in the Briscoe Library lobby next to The Hub and in the display case on the 5th Floor, in front of the Nixon Library.

We need your feedback! We're looking to buy modern whiteboards for the study areas. We've purchased a two-sided A-Frame style in three sizes and we want your opinion on your favorite before we buy more.

One whiteboard has been placed on each floor with a QR code leading to a one question survey were you can rank the sizes. Try them all out and let us know which you prefer.

Keep an eye out. These boards are on wheels and will migrate! Each one includes an eraser and markers.

We're always grateful for your input as we continue to look for ways to improve the library space for your use.

We'd like to thank all the students who stopped by on Valentine's Day to let us know what you love most about the library! A whopping 131 of you shared your thoughts, feedback, and requests for the library space.

When it comes to space, students are huge fans of the 5th Floor, saying “I love the 5th Floor vibes!” and “5th Floor by the windows has my heart”. You particularly enjoyed the windows, furniture options, and the ability to socialize.

Many of you also loved the silence, particularly on the 4th Floor, saying “Love the small rooms for quiet study” and “I love the peace & quiet.” We’re happy to provide spaces that support many different types of study needs.

You also shared the different ways you relax in the library, saying “I love the coloring pages + pencils available for when ppl need a brain break” and “Love the puzzles ya’ll leave out for us!”

Other students shared constructive feedback, requesting additional microwaves, study tables, and standing desks. Your feedback is very important to us. We’ll be compiling and evaluating everything you shared with us and will use it to inform future updates and improvements to the library.
