What is the best treatment for acne scars? There isn’t a universal answer because there are different factors to consider when developing a treatment plan. Acne scars can result in tissue loss in the skin and below the skin. The body responds by repairing indentations with scar tissue. The body may also respond to tissue loss with excessive collagen production, which results in the acne scar looking thicker. Let’s review the different types of acne scars; the different treatments for acne scars depending on type, and skin type; treatments that stimulate collagen in the skin; how reduced bone, and soft tissue projection can make acne scars look deeper; and why developing a treatment plan for acne scars with a long-term view is important.

People understandably assume that the filler brand determines results. In actuality, placement technique determines results, not the filler brand. Let’s review my method for cheek volume enhancement, the minimal downtime compared to conventional filler placement, and how enhancing the cheeks can be done in minutes on the same day as the consultation.

Can pattern hair loss be cured? This is a common question from many men and women suffering from hair loss. Since the genes for pattern hair loss are genetically hardwired into the DNA, there is no outright cure. However, thinning hair can be thickened, with hair density, and scalp coverage maximized for as long as genetically possible with TrichoStem® Hair Regeneration.

08/06/2024

Although most hair loss is caused by genetics, known as androgenetic alopecia/ genetic pattern hair loss, but there are other, less common causes of hair thinning. About 95% of hair loss cases are due to genetic pattern hair loss, affecting 30% of women under 50 and 50% over 50. Generally, a decrease in hair thickness and density characterizes androgenetic alopecia. While pattern hair loss cannot be completely stopped, it can be managed by thickening thinning hair, stimulating growth, and maximizing scalp coverage. With a background in hair transplant surgery, Dr. Prasad developed the TrichoStem® Hair Regeneration treatment first as way to improve hair transplant results. This non-surgical hair transplant alternative is customized for each patient, involves 1-2 sessions spaced 15-24 months apart, with benefits lasting 3-5 years, or more.

How most TrichoStem® Hair Regeneration patients only need one or two treatment sessions for a lasting effect, unlike PRP alone and other ACell + PRP treatments that require multiple treatment sessions within the first year alone.

Minoxidil is often the first treatment tried for hair loss because it’s readily available without a prescription. Minoxidil was originally a blood pressure medication, with a side effect of hair growth that ultimately became its primary use. Minoxidil appears to delay the onset of normal hair shedding, and it appears to extend the active hair growth cycle, which gives the scalp more coverage. While minoxidil does have some benefits for many people with genetic pattern hair loss, the effect of minoxidil has limitations. The application must be consistent, and there can be issues with scalp irritation.

If discontinued, the effects of minoxidil can stop abruptly, which usually leads to sudden hair shedding. The effects typically aren’t long-term, but still require daily application. For men, a limitation of minoxidil is it has no effect on DHT (dihydrotestosterone), unlike finasteride or dutasteride. In male pattern hair loss, hair that is sensitive to DHT is subject to progressive hair thinning, and eventually disappearing. Unfortunately, women with female pattern hair loss cannot use finasteride, with minoxidil being the only topical treatment for female pattern hair loss.

TrichoStem® Hair Regeneration is a non-surgical method of treating pattern hair loss for men and women, with benefits that can last 3-5 years or longer. TrichoStem® Hair Regeneration treatment patients don’t need to use minoxidil at all, but men are still prescribed finasteride, particularly younger men with high DHT-sensitivity, for best and longest lasting results.

We’ve all heard that beauty is only skin deep, but facial appearance goes far deeper than the skin. The key attributes of youthful beauty are provided by the bone structure. As we age, not only does outer skin quality change, but facial volume also diminishes. Facial volume loss is mostly due to bone resorption, so volume enhancement should target the bone structure. Most volume procedures don’t prioritize the bone; instead, they place filler at the skin level or just below it.

Watch this video to learn more about how facial aging extends beyond the skin's surface, the importance of addressing facial volume loss at the bone level, and why facial fillers are not a substitute for surgical facelifts.

People often hesitate about fillers because results may not last as long as they’d like, or the fear of ending up with pillowy-looking faces. Dr. Prasad believes in a natural aesthetic in his procedures.

The placement technique for softer fillers in delicate areas is important to achieve a younger appearance with maximum longevity of results. Different filler treatment areas have different factors for filler longevity. Three factors can affect the longevity of hyaluronic acid fillers: elasticity and viscosity of material, effects of facial movement, and the presence/absence of hyaluronidase. Thicker fillers are placed in facial areas with little to no muscle movement, such as the cheeks, and can last up to 2 years. Softer fillers are better for facial areas with more muscle movement, such as the lips, and can last 6 months to a year. Hyaluronic acid naturally occurs in the body, so these fillers are safely metabolized, unlike semi-permanent and permanent fillers that need surgical removal.

Dr. Prasad developed the TrichoStem® Hair Regeneration Treatment system in 2011 after establishing a highly effective, and long-lasting procedure combining ACellular Matrix and PRP (platelet-rich plasma) to manage hair loss. People often ask how TrichoStem® Hair Regeneration differs from regular PRP, and other PRP + ACell treatments. Unlike other treatments that require monthly sessions with a minimum of 5 sessions, and no clear expectations of longevity, TrichoStem® Hair Regeneration can thicken thinning hair, and stimulate hair regrowth from dormant hair follicles that can last 3-5 years, or longer, with only 2 sessions spaced 18 months apart.

Eyelid ptosis describes the upper eyelid position as being lower than it should be so it partially covers the pupil. Surgery for ptosis is performed to elevate the affected eyelid by addressing the muscle that lifts the eyelid called the levator muscle. Dr. Prasad often sees patients who’ve had previous ptosis surgery who feel frustrated with needing to have another procedure. Eyelid ptosis surgery is performed by oculoplastic or oculofacial plastic surgeons, as it is a specialized surgery not performed by general plastic or cosmetic surgeons. Eyelid ptosis is either classified as congenital ptosis, meaning you were born with the condition usually due to the levator muscle not developing fully, or acquired ptosis, meaning the ptosis occurred after birth. The underlying cause for the eyelid ptosis, age, and other factors can affect the longevity of results after ptosis surgery.

Another common cause for ptosis is involutional ptosis where drooping eyelids are due to thinning or stretching of the levator muscle. Generally, the patient still has good muscle function and correction can be successful with long-term stability. The type of ptosis surgery performed is based on the eyelid position, and the function of the levator muscle. There are instances where facial aging can cause gradual changes, requiring further surgery later on. Satisfactory ptosis correction can be challenging to achieve, regardless of the surgeon’s expertise.

Lifting skin is a common thought when first experiencing facial aging. Although you may appear younger by shifting your cheek skin upward, there is more to facial aging than sagging skin. Dr. Prasad’s approach is to first determine the anatomical issues before developing a treatment plan. One main factor of facial aging is sagging and hollowing caused by bone loss due to aging or bone deficiency, through Structural Volumizing, long-lasting hyaluronic acid fillers are placed at the bone level to improve the definition of the facial bone structure and can help balance the proportion of the face. Facelifts are usually done for patients in their mid-60s and older.

So the question is, when is the right time to perform a lifting procedure, like a facelift? The second most significant aspect of facial aging is soft tissue laxity. A lifting procedure may be appropriate if the patient’s skin laxity is too significant for there to be a benefit from Structural Volumizing; In this case, facelift surgery may be performed to reposition the sagging tissue. Facelifts tighten the SMAS (superficial musculo aponeurotic system) which allows the overlying skin to be repositioned most effectively. In addition, bone loss can still be addressed after a facelift through Structural Volumizing.

Once volume and definition have been achieved, what can be done for more youthful-looking skin? Youthful-looking skin is often described to have a vibrant glow. One way is to enhance the skin from past exposures that cause discoloration and wrinkling. Placing PRP under the skin helps improve the fat cell layers which then enhances the skin’s glow. Skin boosting and laser skin toning can also help improve the quality of the skin with minimal to no downtime. https://zurl.co/teDI

Minimizing the scars from hair transplant surgery was one of the most significant challenges prior to establishing TrichoStem® Hair Regeneration. One of the tools Dr. Prasad uses is extracellular matrix by ACell, this material enhances wound healing through the activation of your own adult stem cells; this is also used to enhance the healing of hair grafts. Since most people coming in for consultation have thinning hair, Dr. Prasad recognized that the density of their existing hair was much better than the density that would be created with a hair transplant. Native hairs exist naturally more close to each other than a hair transplant can achieve, this means that reactivating hair that is not growing and thickening of thinning hair can result in better coverage than hair transplant surgery.

Now, with TrichoStem® Hair Regeneration, this approach of performing multiple surgeries to try to keep up with progressive hair loss is no longer the first line of therapy for thinning hair. It is important to remember that hair loss is managed, not cured. However, the option to improve your scalp coverage with one to two treatments performed over a two-year period is far more convenient and less risky than surgical hair transplantation, with benefits lasting 3-5 years, or even longer.
