Ask a dental hygienist!

💡 In order to explain how it works, it's best to start by explaining how cavities are formed...

Every time you eat or drink something that contains sugar or carbohydrates, disease causing bacteria chow down on the particles and create acid.

This causes the pH of your saliva to drop and your enamel begins to demineralize (which puts you at risk for cavities and sensitivity).

Xylitol is anti-cavity, because bacteria will "eat" xylitol, and they can't metabolize it (no acid is created).

Eventually bacteria essentially "starve" which lowers the amount of cavity causing bacteria present in your mouth AND neutralizes your saliva❗

🔴Xylitol is toxic for most pets! Keep xylitol containing products stored in a safe spot away from furry friends🔴

The tabling of today's Federal Budget brought a thrilling announcement for CDHA and the profession as the government committed to expanding the Canada Student Loan Forgiveness Program to include dental hygienists working in rural and remote communities, among other health care and social services professionals.

“The expansion of the Canada Student Loan Forgiveness Program will support dental hygienists in delivering critical oral health care to historically underserved rural and remote communities across Canada,” says Francine Trudeau, president of CDHA.

CDHA has been an ardent advocate on this important issue for many years and is thrilled to finally celebrate this success and meaningful impact.
