Andrea Plitz PT & RYT

Andrea Plitz PT & RYT Physiotherapist & Yogini working w/ adults & older children with complex/ persistent musculoskeletal

As a physiotherapist and yoga teacher I love to blend the science and art of biomechanical diagnosis and holistic therapeutics with movement, energy, and breath. I believe a big part of that is helping people to reconnect with their bodies in a new and individualized way taking into consideration their unique health and movement profile. This allows the body and mind to work together to enhance ou

tcomes, integrating positive change in an easy and holistic manner to improve health, function, and movement, returning to oneness. Looking at the body as an integrated system of myofascial, articular (joint), neural, visceral (organ), as well as cognitive and emotional components, I am able to more quickly find the root cause(s) and address the influencing factors to relieve symptoms while helping to restore optimal movement. I have extensive training in and love treating women's health issues including pregnancy and postnatal care, pelvic floor rehabilitation for both men and women, complex &/or chronic pain, and therapeutic yoga. Treatment techniques are individualized, protocol-free, and functional for your unique needs and health picture. They include a cohesive blend of manual therapy, myofascial release, craniosacral therapy, visceral manipulation, exercise and movement rehabilitation including integration of breath, Yoga, and other mindful movement therapies, postural reeducation, and therapeutic ultrasound. PhysioYoga is also available should you like the integration of mindfulness, meditation, pranayama, and more.

Season 10 is somehow upon us already!! at Bloom Integrative Health.

I truly believe that group rehab is the next step towards the future of physio/ therapeutic movement (continuing in tandem with the amazing 1:1 care we all already provide). There are SO many benefits to learning, moving & treating in a group format - both for patient and clinician.
.. And, DYK that group rehab has been found to be as effective as individual physio care (for urinary incontinence & low back, knee, shoulder, & neck pain); and provides a significantly greater degree of independence and satisfaction among patients, with the added benefit of more cost savings? Pretty awesome, right?! 🙌

👉 Support your phenomenal treatments of education, manual therapies, foundational exercises, et al from your Physio, RMT, osteo, chiro, etc. by joining Bloom's Season 10 Group Physio series (running Nov 8 - Dec 16).

Varying formats of 4 or 6 week series, 45 or 60 minute classes, virtual or in studio + class replays) are available and series continue to be adjusted to best support individuals' goals, movement profiles, and comfort.

📆 Registration closes Oct 29th and class spaces are limited. Virtual attendance for any Ontario resident is also possible.

🤔 Not sure how to refer? Check out our quick referral form here".

FYI: All externally referred patients will have a 15 minute phone or virtual consultation with the class teacher or supervising physio (for classes taught by PTAs) prior to the start of class.

More questions? Schedule a Phone Consult with me. As always, happy to chat about future series foci that would better support you and your patients' rehab needs.

Good to know - especially with the heat of the summer upon us ☀️

How much fluid do you need before a workout?

In the 90 minutes leading up to your training session, if you are low on body water, you need to drink as much as comfortable of low-carbohydrate fluid. If it is a hot environment and you are not used to the heat, drinking icy fluid will help drop your core temperature and help as “pre-cooling” before you head out.

So important. I’m rounding into 40 (in a few years) and am working now to rehab myself post- kids & chronic back issues so I can start lifting/ training more for a resilient body for the rest of my life.

What small steps are you taking today for a better, more healthy and resilient tomorrow?

The fact is, everyone - both men and women - naturally loses muscle and strength with age. If you do nothing to stem that loss, you can expect to lose up to 8 percent of your strength each decade after your fortieth birthday, and that accelerates after age 60.

The years around menopause can make this worse, as estrogen is essential for muscle stem cell function and maintenance and is also a main driver of muscle mass and strength.

Now is the time to lift heavy sh*t! to build and maintain muscle quality and preserve balance, coordination, and proprioception for daily tasks!

Love this!

Fuel. I use that term a lot. Why?

Because language is one of the first ways we can create positive relationships with food -- especially when it comes to our children.

Too often, magazines and fitness guides talk about "magical equations" and food in terms of calories ("if you eat this much, you have to do this much exercise to burn it off..."), which greatly oversimplifies how food and exercise work. 👉 What if we instead taught our children first simply about the benefits of feeling good and performing well when we are appropriately fueled?

Food SHOULD be positive, not restrictive. We should approach food as something that, when done right, boosts our performance and keeps our bodies feeling strong. Food can also be fun -- I'm all for eating that holiday cookie (check out my post from November 10 if you don't know what I'm talking about 😉🍪).

Once we start approaching food as much-needed fuel, we can start having more positive conversations about nutrition choices as part of our fueling -- not restricting.

Listen to my conversation with about how parents can approach fueling in their April 21 episode, at https://thereadystate.com/trs_podcast/stacy-sims-menopause/

For all my ... 🤜

I've been having some great conversations with patients lately around parenting and our conversations around bodily changes, sexuality, and empowerment of health.

I am already having conversations with my girls around these topics - although at a basic level as they are still quite young👱‍♀️👶. But, the earlier we can talk about and normalize these things, the better educated, empowered and healthful they will be (I hope🤞).

These are a few books I have recently bought and are still making my way through, but am 💜 them all so far.

What are your favourite resources to go to for these important topics? For any gender 🌈

I am also now happy to see kids/ teens for pelvic health concerns including but not limited to bladder or bowel concerns, painful periods (don't just medicate!), core dysfunction and more.

See my upcoming Pelvic Wellness Physio Rehab class starting March 23rd - for those experiencing pelvic girdle pain of any kind including painful periods, endometriosis, p***c/ tailbone/ sexual/ etc.

If the mountain seems too big today, then climb a hill instead.⁣

If the morning brings you sadness, its okay to stay in bed.⁣

If the day ahead seems heavy and your plans feel like a curse, ⁣

There’s no shame in rearranging; don’t make yourself feel worse.⁣

If a shower stings like needles, and a bath feels like you’ll drown,⁣

If you haven’t washed your hair in days, don’t throw away your crown. ⁣

A day is not a lifetime, a rest is not defeat.⁣

Don’t think of it as failure, just a quiet, kind retreat.⁣

It’s okay to take a moment from an anxious, fractured mind.⁣

The world will not stop turning while you get realigned.⁣

The mountain will still be there, when you want to try again. ⁣

You can climb it in your own time; just love yourself til then.⁣

Well... the return to clinical care did not go as planned😪

I am now taking the summer to slow down, focus on sustainable business development for , and will postpone seeing patients until September (except in my )

Fluctuating energy levels, non restorative sleep (despite getting the hours), brain fog and difficulty concentrating are some issues I've been having lately. Don't worry helpful IG friends 😘, I have already seen & am getting spectacular treatment from .nd &

I wanted to post this here to let all the Moms out there know that just because you are postpartum (no matter how long) does not mean that you have to live with fatigue, brain fog, leaking urine, pain (any where, including with resuming in*******se).... or anything else that is "normal because you just had a baby..." These are signs that you need some extra support. And if not now, when?

There is help out there that will give you the guidance, tools, resources and support to improve from where you are now.

I am *aiming* 🤞 to provide some content here that you find helpful and thought provoking on how we recover.... scratch, that... how we FIND HEALTH postnatally after the marathon that is pregnancy, labour & delivery, then jumping back into the marathon that is caring for & feeding a new born (plus any other kids) while you are physically/ mentally/ emotionally healing, then returning to work.... all in a global pandemic!

Let's find our postpartum health (where ever you are in that timeline) together.

My "exercises" will be focused on ones that are safe to do even though you might be fatigued or not feeling at your best, will integrate some core, abdominal wall and pelvic floor pieces, as well as some mindfulness, breath work and more.

Let me know in the comments 👇 if this resonates with you, what you'd like to know or see, and how you are needing support these days?

I ’ M B A C K !

While it seems like only yesterday that I was patiently awaiting the arrival of my newest 👶, I am excited to get back to working with pre/ postnatal women🤰🤱, perimenopausal women &, really anyone with a pelvic floor - especially those who are having a hard time finding the right next steps on their rehab & health journey. 🏃‍♀️

This includes not only those who have the “typical” bladder, bowel, sexual or reproductive concerns that pelvic health Physio’s are so well known for helping. But also those who have lingering musculoskeletal aches/ pains/etc, altered movement patterns, or have not made the expected gains despite putting in the effort. Or those with a complex medical history or symptoms that make it hard to tease out where to start or how to continue.

I 💙working with these puzzle people & weaving together their story with an integrative whole body (& mind) approach - with the additional knowledge of my pelvic health perspective (a piece often overlooked or not looked at at all 🤓).

I am also very excited to work more with small groups of patients in our physio rehab classes. There is SO much benefit to community and group learning, not to mention the reduced cost to quality care.
